Ayurveda - the ancient science
Ayurveda is the eldest surviving complete medical system in the world.
Derived from its ancient Sanskrit roots - ‘Ayus' (life) and ‘Veda' (knowledge) – offering a rich, comprehensive outlook to a healthy life; its origins go back nearly 5000 years. To when it was expounded and practiced by the same spiritual Rishis, who laid the foundations of the Vedic civilisation in India, by organising the fundamentals of life into proper systems.
Ayurveda deals with the method of healthy living, along with therapeutic process relating to physical, mental, social and spiritual harmony. Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest system of health care in the world and originates from the Indian subcontinent.
The Panchakarma Procedure
Panchakarma (five actions) is a cleansing and rejuvenating program for the body, mind and consciousness. It is known for its beneficial effects on overall health, wellness and self-healing.
Panchakarma can help to revere negative effects on daily living. It can restore the natural state of health and wellness by cleansing the body of toxins, bringing balance into our system, improving bodily functions. It can also help you sustain this process by making positive changes in our lifestyle.
The Panchakarma therapeutic process appears quite simple in its application; however, its effects are very powerful and effective.
Panchakarma is a unique, natural, holistic, health-giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body’s deep tissues of toxins, open the subtle channels, bringing life-enhancing energy, thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well-being.

6:00 am - Daylight is rising, awakening, glass of hot water for cleaning process of the body
6:15 am – about 15 minutes of Yoga Asanas and Pranayama exercises
6:45 am –half hour of guided meditation
7:30 am – enjoying the Ayurvedic breakfast
9:00 am – Doctors’ consultation
9:30 am – first treatment, i.e. foot massage
10:00 am – retreat time
11:00 am – Abhyanga treatment, a four hands full body massage
11:45 am – retreat time
1:00 pm – Ayurvedic lunch, individually prepared
3:00 pm – Katibasti treatment - oil pressure procedure for the back

Ayurvedic Perspectives on Modern Diseases
Our body cells are surrounded by fluids which should be slightly alkaline in order to sustain life. If these fluids, especially the blood, become more acidic, our physical condition will first manifest fatigue and tendencies to catch colds and flu. As these fluids become more acidic, our condition increases to headaches and chronic fatigue. Our body will begin to deposit these excess acid forming substances in some area of the body such as breasts in women or the prostate in men. Cells which adapt to an acid environment are called malignant.
Ayurveda recommends an on-balance alkaline forming diet to maintain healthy cells. High acid forming foods such as eggs, red meats, cheese and sugar should be replaced with moderate to low acid forming foods such as whole grains and legumes. The majority of foods should be alkaline forming such as those found in seasonal fruits and vegetables and natural condiments such as soy.
Herbs should be taken which help clean the blood of excess acidity and restore health. Traditionally, bitter herbs such as amalaki, manjista or guggul have been incorporated into balanced formulas such as triphala which can be taken over longer periods of time for health maintenance.
The great law of cause and effect is always operating and cannot be circumvented by only relieving symptoms. However, the law cuts both ways - by understanding how the disease was created, we can find the path back to health. Lastly, it is important to remember that every situation has a front as well as a back if we just will look for it.
